UNESCO Associated Schools Network
The UNESCO Associated Schools Network (ASPnet) connects close to 10,000 schools in 167 countries around a common goal to build peace in the minds of children and young people. Through concrete actions member schools promote the ideals of UNESCO valuing rights and dignity, gender equality, social progress, freedom, justice and democracy, respect for diversity and international solidarity. The Network operates at international and national levels with three clear priorities: education for sustainable development, global citizenship education and inter-cultural and heritage learning.
Who can join the Network?
Membership to the UNESCO Associated Schools Network is open to all public or private educational institutions recognized by national authorities within UNESCO’s Member States – from pre-primary to secondary levels including Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions as well Teacher Training and Education Institutions.
ASPnet members are committed to promoting UNESCO’s ideals and to placing them prominently in the organization, lessons, projects and policies of their institutions, in line with the UNESCO ASPnet guide for members.
How to join the Network
If your institution is interested in becoming an ASPnet member, you should:
- Familiarize yourself with UNESCO, the Network and its activities.
- Contact the ASPnet National Coordinator in your country and consult with them.
- Ensure that the school leadership, teaching body, and student representatives of your school/institution are in agreement with the decision to apply.
After completing these steps, you can start applying through the ASPnet platform.
ASPnet Connect
ASPnet Connect is the collaborative platform of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network.
The platform includes a map and directory of member institutions and national networks. Candidate institutions can submit their application to join the Network through the platform.
It also provides a collaborative online workspace to support collaboration, communication, and knowledge-sharing among National Coordinators worldwide.
It is available in English, French, and Spanish.

The UNESCO Associated Schools Network acts as a laboratory of ideas for educational quality, innovation and transformation for sustainable Development, global citizenship education, inter-cultural an heritage learning.
It brings school communities to the global debate on education, drives innovation of teacher education, and provides a world platform for students to exchange ideas and experiences.
