AONB Youth Ranger Programme

The initiative offers young volunteers new opportunities for exploration, learning and adventure in the great outdoors within the Ring of Gullion and Strangford and Lecale AONBs

About the programme

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in the environment to get out and explore these special landscapes. Led by qualified and experienced outdoor leaders, the programme will provide young people with meaningful and fun activities such as first aid, outdoor survival skills and bush craft, canoeing, navigation, practical conservation skills and much more. They will also have the opportunity to meet up with the youth rangers from the other AONB group and enjoy shared activities.

The AONB Youth Ranger programme aims to provide the young people of the Ring of Gullion and Strangford and Lecale with a deeper understanding and appreciation for their local area, inspiring them to learn and care about their local environment, while also providing them with the skills necessary to safely explore the rural/coastal landscapes

The programme is part funded by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency, and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Ards and North Down Borough Council, and is free for to attend.
