Mourne Gullion Strangford Youth Leaders

The Youth Leaders programme is part of the Mourne Gullion Strangford UNESCO Global Geopark Youth Programme. It supports young people aged 17–24 to develop leadership skills, mentor others and contribute to projects that promote understanding, care and stewardship of the Geopark.

As the final stage of the youth pathway, participants take on greater responsibility, engage with wider UNESCO networks where appropriate, and play an active role in shaping how the Geopark is understood, experienced and cared for.

Progression: From Participant to Changemaker

For those who want to take their Youth Ranger experience further – or join us for the first time – the Youth Leaders programme offers long-term, real-world engagement.

Opportunities include:

• Volunteering on conservation or community projects.
• Supporting Geopark events and programmes.
• Taking part in micro-placements with local partners.
• Co-designing youth-led initiatives around sustainability, culture, or access.

This strand builds practical skills, confidence, and a sense of purpose, creating a pathway into environmental careers and lifelong stewardship.
