Meet the team

Camlough Heritage Society founded in 2006 is a village group of history and conservation enthusiasts set up to protect, preserve and promote our natural and built heritage. We have been involved in many successful projects and have received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to assist with this. Establishing 26 bilingual Town-land stones in the village and surrounding district, followed by an informative historical booklet explaining the project and history of the village was hugely successful. This led to the establishment of an historical walking tour of the village with a qualified guide. Our current project is the restoration of an 17th century derelict Church of Ireland, St.Jude’s as a cultural heritage centre. As a grade 2 listed building the bureaucracy and diplomacy has made this project both educational and a way of developing the art of patience with the Society members. The project is still progressing successfully.

Gavin is responsible for engaging a wide range of stakeholders and the general public to promote the responsible use of the marine and coastal areas within the Mourne Gullion Strangford UNESCO Global Geopark, the Ring of Gullion and Strangford & Lecale AONBs (Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty), and the three MPAs (Marine Protected Areas) Strangford Lough, Murlough/Dundrum Bay and Carlingford Lough. He aims to educate and inform users of the incredible biodiversity along our coasts and in our seas, as well as highlighting the importance of protections for priority species and habitats, and best practice to avoid disturbance of these key features.

Anna is responsible for working with all stakeholders across Strangford, Murlough and Carlingford Marine Protected Areas to protect and conserve our vital marine habitats and species. She will work to promote the sustainable use and enjoyment of these special places, by connecting with our coastal communities and collaborating closely to enhance the marine and coastal environments for future generations!

Amy is responsible for implementing volunteering and outreach actions from the Ring of Gullion AONB, the Strangford and Lecale AONB and the Mourne Gullion Strangford UNESCO Global Geopark management plans. Her role aims to work with all stakeholders in these areas enhance the rich built, cultural and natural heritage; as well as increasing opportunities for public enjoyment of the special qualities of the AONB & Geopark.

Therese enjoys partnership working and building strong links with local communities delivering results with action on the ground.
In my current role, I am part of the team responsible for the delivery of the UNESCO Global Geopark for Mourne Gullion Strangford Management Plan and the Ring of Gullion Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Management Plan. Through my work and voluntary roles, I am passionate about supporting groups positively and creatively to engage with their heritage and environment.

Darren is part of a team dedicated to the development and management of the UNESCO Global Geopark covering Mourne, Gullion, and Strangford, as well as two AONBs (Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty): Ring of Gullion and Strangford & Lecale and three MPA (Marine Protected Area) Strangford Lough, Murlough/Dundrum Bay and Carlingford Lough.

Judith is responsible for implementing actions from the Ring of Gullion AONB, the Strangford and Lecale AONB and the Mourne Gullion Strangford UNESCO Global Geopark management plans. Her role aims to enhance the rich built, cultural and natural heritage in the area as well as increasing opportunities for public enjoyment of the special qualities of the AONB.
